MLM Baby Boomers: Distributors Of Product Or Lifestyle?
Congratulations; you have now found the product you believe in and have gone through the interview process to find the right team that will make your business a success. Now you are head-over-heels in love with your product, team members and the thought of showing off your new product just knowing that everyone is going to be as excited about it as you are.
Before you hit the road, you know that the first thing you need to do is gain a VAST KNOWLEDGE of EVERYTHING possible about the product, company history, compensation plan, and anything else you think people may ask…. RIGHT?? Well, welcome to the world of the 97%’ers. Do you have the look on your face that says “what the hell”?
Look at any of the Network Marketing or MLM statistics out there and you will find that most everyone in the industry uses 97% as the standard percentage of people who DO NOT SUCCEED IN NETWORK MARKETING. Are you asking “why didn’t anyone tell me that when I was looking at this business”? Let me ask you; when you go car shopping and fall in love with the cute little gas hog sports car with your check in hand; does the sales person tell you that there is NO resale value for the cute little gas hog? Why would he pop the bubble of your dream? Besides, you know best… right???
NO, I will not say WRONG! You are just human and so is the sales person who was scared to tell you the truth about your dream of driving that beautiful little car, which he knew that if truth be told not only would he ruin the sale but he would also disappoint you. The same is true with the team leader who is talking to you about going into their MLM company, they do not want you coming in thinking there is ONLY A 3% CHANCE OF SUCCESS. Even if you were crazy enough to still join the company after hearing that statistic, why would anyone tell you that you only have a 3% chance of success? The reality is not that 97% fail in this industry, it is more like only 3% end up achieving the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, there are many who do earn a decent second income.
You now are probably asking “okay, if this is true, what do I do now”? It is obvious that you must know certain critical facts and statistics about your company and product, but there is a good chance you already know more than you think just by going through the interview process you just completed with your upline. What you need to do now is take your enthusiasm on the road and straight to your prospects. You also need to come up with a game plan of how to attract potential clients; which is a whole other blog posting that will be coming soon.
Before you get your engines revved up, I am going to ask you to do yourself the biggest favor of your new business career: PLEASE DO NOT DO WHAT I AND 99% OF ALL NETWORK MARKETERS HAVE DONE WHEN THEY FIRST START TO PROSPECT….. SELL!
Confused yet? As stated in the first paragraph, I assure you that once you are ready to start spreading the word about your product, there will be NO ONE person more excited about the product than you, so you will just assume everyone will feel the same. I repeat this statement because you will need to read it about 100 times to realize it is TRUE!!! Even if you have the best widget ever made, if the person is not ready to improve their financial situation, business minded, or focused and hungry for success; you can hand them the business and the product and they will STILL FAIL.
Instead of selling your business (notice I did not say product), you need to interview people for your business opportunity. The product (if it is as good as you believe) will be easy to sell to those who just want to purchase it provided the price point is right for retail. If your products price point is really high, then you would not sell the product anyway, you will only ever be selling the business opportunity. I hope this make sense, because this is where I feel so many people really miss out and then get discouraged because they cannot sell their product which is truly a business opportunity.
When you purchase a vacation package like a cruise, much of the marketing is focused on the elaborate buffets and the destination spots. In reality, you are purchasing a vacation or getaway from your daily routine and is no different than just going to a hotel in a different city except this one floats and has all the food one would need for their entire life. Like the cruise, when you represent an MLM company, you are selling a getaway and a new lifestyle opportunity for someone and not just the glamorous product (like the huge buffet), you just need to make sure your prospects are aware of that, and more importantly DESIRE THE CHANGE AND OPPORTUNITY.
Typically your upline will assist you in how to attract or purchase leads and it is up to you to learn how to convert them into your downline. Most of the ads your prospects are responding to tend to be business opportunity based and not product based. Few people go deep into a landing page just to buy a product, though they will dig deep if they are looking for lifestyle change. And that is what you need to capitalize on; THE NEED OR DESIRE OF YOUR PROSPECT that drove them to your door.
By now I truly hope that a light bulb is blinding you as now you know more than probably 90% of people who start up in Network Marketing. Now that you know the secret mindset needed to succeed, what is next? INTERVIEWING POTENTIAL BUSINESS PARTNERS! Truly, that is what success in this industry is about, finding like minded entrepreneurs who want to grow their business and then help others do the same.
Your first question to a potential client should never be: “Have you heard about my AWESOME PRODUCT”. It should be: “WHAT is it you are looking for in a business”, or WHY are you looking for a home based business”. Those questions answered honestly will tip you off very quickly to know if this person is a product buyer or the next successful business person and team player in your downline.
